Here’s the negative way of looking at your site traffic:
Every website visitor that doesn’t become a lead is a missed opportunity.
Thousands of (potential) dollars disappearing with every click away.
Hmm. Let’s reframe that.
Positive spin: You have the potential to make thousands of dollars by increasing the conversion rate from visitor to lead by 10%.
And let me tell you from experience…. You can do a lot better than 10%.
Way better.
Double your conversion rate and you double your potential income from your website’s lead generation.
Keep optimising and soon you’ll be in The Wild Elopement Co.’s position where they’re actually turning down some clients because they have so many leads coming from SEO ($100K+ per year just from Google leads).
All you have to do is keep reducing the reasons why someone should click away.
Have I convinced you that this is worth your time?
If so, let’s dive into 6 ways to turn Google clicks into hot leads.
Attract the right traffic
Conversion is all about intent. AI Overviews and chatbots now serve up answers without users ever having to click through to a website.
Wait, does that mean website traffic is useless?
Nope. Kind of the opposite. It means that the clicks you do get are so much more valuable.
That’s because these visitors have either gone through an AI Overview/chatbot (or found you via traditional search) and made the decision to visit your website to find out what you have to offer.
One visitor with clear intention is worth 100 casual browsers.
Attract the right traffic by:
- Creating quality content that follows a targeted keyword strategy (to show up when your ideal audience searches)
- Make sure AI knows how to rank your brand
- Post your content (blogs, landing pages, lead magnets) in the right groups/communities/newsletters – not just spray and pray
And win the dual benefit of attracting your ideal clients and dissuading time-wasters.
Result: Visitors who actually want what you sell. Simple concept, but so effective.
Test: Click through from your own Google listing right now. Does the page match what you searched for?
Cheat code: Don’t chase volume keywords. A low-search-volume phrase with clear buying intent beats a high-volume one full of tyre-kickers, every time.

Send them to the right page
Well, duh. But actually this isn’t as obvious as you think.
If your site appears when customers search, you might think it’s done its job. And it has… but not necessarily the best job.
If Google or AI links your visitor to the wrong page (or even a sub-optimal page) the chances of that click becoming a lead are massively reduced.
That’s because if intent is not met with expectations, signals become confused.
And as the old copywriting adage goes: if you confuse, you’ll lose.
Make sure that you’re sending visitors to the right page.
- Target the right keywords for the content on the page
- Make sure your schema mark-up is accurate (the bit that tells Google & AI how to rank your page)
- Put effort into writing the best, most accurate and attractive meta descriptions (the preview text that you see in snippets on Google & social)
- Only publish quality content that is relevant to the page’s topic
- Submit your sitemap to make sure that Google scrapes your website properly
Specific Landing Pages are the way to guarantee that the right visitors are reading the right content.
Create content that speaks directly to a targeted audience and then drive leads (through ads, social promo, newsletters, etc.) directly to that page. Your conversion rate will skyrocket vs. sending them to a general website page.
Result: A visitor who lands exactly where they expected to.
Test: Click through from your own Google listing right now. Does the page match what you searched for?
Cheat code: There’s no limit to the amount of landing pages you can host on your site. Target as many niches as you like, test them against each other, choose the best and scale all the way up to that retirement goal!

Make them trust you in 5 seconds
Internet attention spans are like a mosquito on Adderall.
You’ve got 5 seconds (max) to gain their trust before they click away to find something more persuasive.
Once the visitor has shown intent by clicking through AND you’ve got them to the right page…
Now’s the time to solidify their trust by delivering – or preferably overdelivering – on their expectations.
That means:
- The same brand voice that is across your socials and newsletters
- Clear, quality content that looks like it’s been carefully considered – not dashed out or farmed out to AI
- A fast-loading site that’s easy to navigate
- Easy-to-find links to supporting content and further reading (blogs, etc.)
They’ve stepped into your online universe and everything seems in order. Better yet, they believe that you’re genuine. You can’t buy that kind of trust – you can only earn it.
Result: The visitor thinks “OK, these people know what they’re doing” instead of hitting the back arrow.
Test: Show your homepage to someone who’s never seen it. Ask them what you do in one sentence. If they hesitate, you’ve got a clarity problem.
Cheat code: Steal your own best line from a testimonial and put it near the top of the page, preferably with the customer’s picture. Social proof = online trust.
Give them an easy next step
OK, your website has done the job of attracting the right client, engaging them and earning their trust – don’t fall at the final hurdle.
Make it as easy as possible for your visitor to make the next move.
Have a call-to-action that’s 1) Clear, 2) Irresistible and 3) Tailored to your ideal client.
Here are a few ideas:
- Linking to your contact form (easiest)
- Booking a time on your calendar for a call (most personal)
- A lead magnet, e.g. a downloadable PDF (most attractive)
Taking action should be simple and low-friction. Don’t make them fill out anything more than name, email and a short message if possible.
Result: The visitor takes action while the motivation is still hot, instead of thinking “I’ll do it later” (they won’t).
Test: Time yourself filling out your own contact form. If it takes more than 30 seconds, cut something.
Cheat code: Put your CTA above the fold too, not just at the bottom. Some people decide in the first 5 seconds – don’t make them scroll to act on it.
Psst. Wanna see an example of an irresistible CTA? There’s one at the bottom of the page 👀
Don’t go quiet after they say yes
This is the part that often gets overlooked – your response.
The visitor has already said that they are sold on your brand and want to be part of your world – your first interaction with them is crucial.
There’s a temptation to automate your reply and save a little bit of time – my strong advice? Don’t.
In this era of Manychat and AI bots delivering robotic responses, the way to stand out and impress is to show your humanity.
Take the extra five minutes to:
- Scan their website/socials
- Assess their request and see how you can factor their intent into your reply
- Write a proper response (not an AI template)
It might be the difference between starting a conversation… or missing out entirely.
Of course, there’s a time and a place for website chatbots, automated “Out Of Office” or “I’ll get back to you in 48 hours” emails…
If your website brings in 5-10 leads per month (and they are all viable leads worth $500-5000+) then creating a personalised response is 100% worth your time.
Result: The customer feels seen and valued from the minute your reply.
Test: Look at your last 3 reply emails. Could you tell they were copy-pasted? If you can tell, they can too.
Cheat code: Retargeting is also an option – even if a lead goes cold, set a calendar reminder to get in touch later.

Check what’s working (and what’s not)
This is the technical stuff that a lot of people avoid because it seems a bit…well, techie.
Luckily, you can get software to do most of it for you – for free.
Install:
- Google Analytics
- Hotjar
- Microsoft Clarity
And see where your traffic is coming from, who they are, where they drop off and which content is the top-converting.
Then form your content strategy around this information.
Result: You stop guessing and start doing more of what actually converts visitors into leads.
Test: Open Clarity or GA4 right now. If you can’t say which blog post brought you the most traffic last month, that’s your answer.
Cheat code: Ask Clarity to show you session recordings, not just numbers. You’ll learn more in 5 minutes watching someone use your site than you will in an hour of spreadsheet analysis.
